What does a smart home security system include?
A smart home security system ties cameras, smart locks, door and window sensors, gates and the garage into one app. Cameras record to a recorder in your home, locks and doors report whether they’re secure, and alerts reach your phone even when the app is closed. It isn’t the same as a monitored alarm, which is a separate service.
No subscription to see your own cameras or run your home. Monitoring — for police/fire dispatch and insurance credit — is a separate, optional service, and we’ll tell you honestly when it’s worth it.
- CamerasHikvision and Ubiquiti UniFi, wired (PoE) wherever possible, rated for the cold.
- RecordingTo a recorder in your home. Cloud backup is optional, and your choice.
- Locks, doors & gatesTheir state at a glance, and lock up with one sentence.
- AlertsOn your phone, even with the app closed.
Locked, closed and armed — at a glance
- One status line. “All 4 locked · doors closed” is the first thing you see.
- Disarm, Home or Away from the same screen, as you leave or on a schedule.
- Every lock, one tap each — front, patio, garage entry and cellar in our demo home.
- Lock up by voice. “Turn off all the lights and lock all the doors.” Locks are security devices, so KeenAi shows you exactly what you’re approving before you confirm.

Everything at the edge of your property, on one screen
- Every camera, live. Front drive, front entry, pool deck and garden, beside the doors and locks they watch.
- Gates and the garage door with their state always shown, and Open, Stop and Close.
- People and vehicles, not leaves. Alerts from cameras that can tell the difference, on the models that support it.
- Recordings stay home, on the recorder in your house.

A panel by the door you leave from
On the way out, a panel by the garage door shows what’s open, what’s locked and what the cameras see — and sets Away in one tap.
- Every lock, door and gate in one view.
- Camera tiles at a size you can actually see from across the hall.
- The same app as your phone, laid out for the wall.

Gate, garage and lights, handled together
- Open the gate for a delivery from work, and see it close again.
- The garage door’s state, always. No more driving back to check.
- Lights with the gate after dark, so nobody walks up a black driveway.
- Codes for the people you trust: family, the dog walker, a contractor for a week — added and removed from the app.

You know what’s happening at home without checking
Every home is set up around the people in it. This is the kind of day we design for.
Away
Last one out sets Away. Lights off, doors locked, and you know the garage closed.
A delivery

Welcome home
The gate and garage open and the driveway lights come on as you pull in.
Lock up
“Turn off all the lights and lock all the doors.” Twelve lights and four locks, one confirm.

Wired PoE, Wi-Fi or battery cameras?
We wire wherever we can. Here’s why, and when the other options make sense.
| Camera type | Strengths | Trade-offs |
|---|---|---|
| Wired PoE | Power and video on one cable. The most reliable picture, continuous recording and no batteries in the cold. | Needs a cable run to each camera, which we plan at the assessment. |
| Wi-Fi, plugged in | Easier where a cable can’t reach, with continuous power. | Only as good as the Wi-Fi signal outside, which is often weak. |
| Battery | The quickest to put up, anywhere. | Batteries lose capacity in deep cold, and most record short clips rather than continuously. |

KeenAi One is not an alarm company
It shows and controls your cameras, locks, doors and gates, and sends alerts to your phone. A monitored alarm, where a monitoring centre dispatches police or fire, is a separate, optional service. It’s worth it if you want someone responding when nobody is watching their phone, or if your insurer asks for it — and we’ll tell you honestly whether that’s you.
Free assessment
We walk the property with you and agree what each camera should see and which doors matter.
Design & quote

Security cameras & smart locks: frequently asked questions
Do I need a monthly subscription for security cameras?
No. Your cameras record to a recorder in your home and you can watch them from anywhere without a fee. No subscription to see your own cameras or run your home. Monitoring — for police/fire dispatch and insurance credit — is a separate, optional service, and we’ll tell you honestly when it’s worth it.
Will security cameras work at −35°C?
We install cold-rated hardware and weather-seal every connection. Saskatchewan winter is our design requirement, not an afterthought. Whatever you buy, check a camera’s rated operating temperature before it goes outside.
Wired or wireless cameras?
Wired (PoE) wherever possible — reliability and image quality win, especially in the cold. Wireless where wiring is impractical. Battery cameras lose capacity in deep cold and usually record clips rather than continuously. Your free assessment tells you exactly which, and where.
Where is my camera footage stored?
On a recorder in your home — a network video recorder or a UniFi console. Footage leaves the house only when you watch remotely or if you choose optional cloud backup.
Can I see my cameras when I’m away?
Yes — secure remote viewing from your phone. We set it up with you and explain exactly how access works.
What happens if the internet goes down?
Cameras keep recording to the recorder in your home, and locks keep working at the door. What pauses is viewing from outside and alerts to your phone; both resume when the connection does.
How many security cameras does a house need?
Most homes start with the doors people actually use — front, back or patio, and garage — plus the driveway. We walk the property with you and agree what each camera should see before anything goes up.
Do smart locks work in a Saskatchewan winter?
Most smart locks keep their batteries on the warm side of the door, but batteries still lose capacity in the cold, and a door that binds in winter strains any motor. We choose locks for the door and its exposure, set up low-battery alerts, and make sure there’s always a second way in.
Can I give a code to a dog walker or contractor?
Yes. Keypad smart locks support separate codes that you add and remove from the app, and on locks that report it, you can see which code opened the door.
Will smart security lower my home insurance?
Some insurers offer a discount for a monitored alarm; cameras alone usually don’t qualify. Ask your insurer what they require. If it’s monitoring, that’s the separate, optional service described above.
Is KeenAi One an alarm system?
No. It shows and controls your cameras, locks, doors and gates and sends alerts to your phone. A monitored alarm, with a monitoring centre that dispatches police or fire, is a separate, optional service.
What about my privacy?
Footage records locally by default. Cameras are aimed at your property, not your neighbour’s. If you add the KeenAI Platform, even smart features run on hardware in your home — analysis without uploading your life to someone’s cloud.
Can I keep the cameras I already have?
Often. Many cameras that support the ONVIF or RTSP standards can be brought into KeenAi One. We check the model first and tell you honestly if a replacement is the better buy.
Can you do just a doorbell or a single camera?
Yes. Small jobs done properly are how most of our relationships start.
