Smart Thermostats & Climate Control in Saskatoon
Heat that is ready for a −35°C morning, eases off when the house is empty and tells you before a pipe freezes at the cabin. We install the control layer — thermostats, room sensors and zoning — including line-voltage thermostats for electric-baseboard homes.

What does smart climate control do?
Smart climate control gives each room or zone its own temperature and schedule, adjusts to who’s home and the weather outside, and warns you when something is wrong — a room too cold, humidity too high, a furnace that stopped heating. The schedules run on a hub in your home, so heating carries on through an internet outage.
In a mild climate a smart thermostat is a convenience. In Saskatchewan, where heating runs for half the year, it is also a protection device: a temperature floor, an alert path and a schedule that keeps working when the internet doesn’t.

Every zone in the house, at a glance
- Six zones, one screen. Great Room, Primary Suite, Media Room, Office, Gym and Wine Cellar each show what they’re set to and what they actually are.
- Heat, cool or auto, per zone. The gym runs cooler; the wine cellar holds 13° all year.
- Change it from anywhere. Turn the cabin up on Friday afternoon from the office.
- Ask in plain words. “Set the Great Room to 21 degrees.” KeenAi shows you its plan, then does it when you confirm.

Heat, light and shade in the same room screen
- Each room holds its own climate. Set point, actual temperature and Off, Heat, Cool or Auto, right above that room’s lights.
- Shades and heat answer to the same sentence: “Close the Great Room shades and set the Great Room to 21 degrees.”
- Free heat, used well. South and west shades can stay open on a sunny January afternoon and close at dusk to hold the warmth.
- Air you can see. We’re bringing air quality into the room screen: CO₂, fine particles and humidity from the room’s sensors, beside its temperature.

Warm when you’re there, careful when you’re not
Every home is set up around the people in it. This is the kind of winter day we design for.
Warm before the alarm
The house is at temperature before anyone is up, starting earlier on the coldest mornings.
Last one out
Heat eases back in empty rooms. The office stays warm if someone is working from home.
Sun on the glass
South and west shades stay open to take the free heat, then close as the sun goes down.
Home again
Living spaces are warm by the time you’re in the door. Bedrooms follow at bedtime.
The floor holds
If any room drops below its minimum — a cold basement, a garage, the cabin — your phone knows.
Which smart thermostat does my heating need?
The heating system decides the thermostat, not the other way round. This is the question we answer first at every assessment.
| Your heating | Thermostat | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Furnace or heat pump (forced air) | Low-voltage (24 V) smart thermostat: ecobee, Google Nest, Honeywell Home. | Most need a C-wire for steady power. We check the wiring and add one, or the maker’s adapter, if it’s missing. |
| Electric baseboard or convector | Line-voltage (120/240 V) smart thermostat, such as Sinopé. | The big-box smart thermostats won’t work on these. One per room or heater circuit, installed to code by licensed electrical partners. |
| Electric in-floor heat | Floor thermostat with a floor sensor, such as Sinopé. | Controls by air or floor temperature, so tile is warm without overheating the flooring. |
| Hot-water in-floor or boiler | Zone thermostats and controls, such as Uponor. | We do the controls. Boiler and piping work stays with your heating or plumbing contractor. |
| Ductless mini-split | Integration by model, or a smart controller. | We confirm your model before promising control. |
Every zone on one panel, not a row of thermostats
In a zoned house the hallway fills up with thermostats and nobody remembers which one runs which room. A wall panel running KeenAi One puts every zone in one place.
- Every zone at a glance: set point, actual temperature and mode.
- The same app as your phone, laid out for the wall.
- Thermostats stay in their rooms and keep working on their own.

The control layer for every kind of heat
Smart thermostats
For furnaces and heat pumps: ecobee, Nest and Honeywell Home, with room sensors where one room always runs cold.
Baseboard thermostats
Line-voltage Sinopé thermostats give electric-heat homes per-room schedules and remote control.
In-floor heating controls
Electric and hot-water floor zones on a schedule, with floor sensors that protect the finish.
Zoning logic
Room by room on baseboard and in-floor heat; on forced air, with dampers fitted by your HVAC contractor.
Air quality & humidity
CO₂, fine-particle and humidity sensing, with HRV or humidifier control where the equipment allows.
Freeze & away protection
Minimum temperatures, freeze alerts and cabin monitoring — paired with water shut-off.
Schedules & home/away
Heat backs off when the house is empty and is warm again before you’re home.
Weather-aware
The outdoor temperature and the forecast inform the morning warm-up.
Mini-splits & special rooms
Ductless units by model, and rooms with their own rules: a gym, a wine cellar, a garage.
Six months of heating is the whole design brief
Baseboard homes are badly served
Plenty of Saskatchewan homes, condos and additions heat with electric baseboards. Almost every smart thermostat on a big-box shelf is low-voltage and won’t work on them, so owners assume smart heating isn’t for them. It is — it’s just a different device.
−35°C changes the job
Here a thermostat protects the house as well as heating it. Schedules and temperature floors live in your home, so they keep working through an internet outage on the coldest night.
Dry air, wet windows
The colder it gets outside, the lower indoor humidity has to be to keep frost and condensation off the windows. Humidity sensing lets the house adjust instead of you guessing.

Controls are ours. Furnaces belong to HVAC contractors.
This matters more on this page than any other, so we’ll be blunt about it. If you call with a furnace that won’t fire, we’ll tell you honestly that you need a different trade — on the phone, not after a service fee.

Smart thermostats & heating: frequently asked questions
Is a smart thermostat worth it in Saskatchewan?
For most homes, yes — because heating is a long season here. A schedule that eases off when the house is empty, room sensors that stop one room being overheated to warm another, and alerts when something goes wrong are worth more where winter lasts half the year. If your house is small, comfortable and on one zone, a basic programmable thermostat may be enough, and we’ll say so.
Do smart thermostats work with electric baseboard heaters?
The common ones don’t. Most smart thermostats are low-voltage (24 V) and made for furnaces. Electric baseboards run on line voltage (120 or 240 V) and need a line-voltage smart thermostat, such as Sinopé’s. KeenAI is a Sinopé Authorized Reseller & Installer, and line-voltage work is done to code by licensed electrical partners.
ecobee or Nest — which is better?
Both are good. ecobee’s room sensors suit homes with one thermostat and uneven rooms; Nest is simple and learns a schedule. KeenAi One works with both, so the choice can be about your house rather than the app. We recommend one at the assessment based on your wiring and how you live.
Do I need a C-wire for a smart thermostat?
Most Wi-Fi thermostats need steady power, which a C (common) wire provides, and many older furnaces don’t have one run to the thermostat. We check at the assessment and use a spare conductor, run a new wire or fit the adapter the thermostat maker supplies.
Can I have different temperatures in different rooms with one furnace?
Yes, two ways. Room sensors let one thermostat balance the rooms you actually use. True zoning adds motorized dampers in the ducts, which your HVAC contractor installs, with a zone controller; we do the controls and the logic. With baseboard or in-floor heat, every room is already its own zone.
Does it still work if the internet drops?
Yes. Your schedules and temperature floors run on hardware in your home, so heating carries on through an outage. What pauses is remote control from your phone and any alerts going out, and both resume by themselves.
Can it warn me before pipes freeze?
Yes. Set a minimum temperature for the house or a room — a cabin, a garage, a crawlspace — and your phone gets an alert if it drops below. Paired with our water leak shut-off, a burst pipe also closes the water.
Can I control the heat at my cabin remotely?
Yes, if the cabin has an internet connection. Hold it low all week, raise it before you leave the city and get an alert if it drops. Without internet at the cabin, local schedules still run, but you won’t see it from away.
What humidity should my house be in winter?
It depends on how cold it is outside: the colder it gets, the lower indoor humidity has to be to keep frost and condensation off the windows. Humidity sensors, and HRV or humidifier control where you have them, let the house adjust. We set the targets with you for your windows and your house.
Can heating follow who’s home?
Yes. The house can ease off when the last person leaves and be warm again before the first one is back, using schedules or phone location — whichever the household is comfortable with.
Do you repair furnaces and air conditioners?
No. We install and configure the control layer — thermostats, sensors, zoning and automation. Mechanical work goes to licensed HVAC contractors. We’ll always tell you which side of that line your problem sits on, and we’d rather do that on the phone than charge you to find out.
Is a subscription required?
No. You own the hardware, and there’s no fee to run your own heating or see your own temperatures.
How much does smart thermostat installation cost in Saskatoon?
It depends on the heating and how many rooms: one forced-air thermostat and a whole baseboard house are very different jobs. We give you a fixed quote at a free on-site assessment, before any work begins.
