Heating is the mountain. With six months of real heating demand, anything you do to how and when the house heats matters more here than almost anywhere else in the country. That’s why our energy work and our climate work are really the same conversation.
Electric-heat homes have the most to gain. If you’re on baseboards, heating is both your biggest load and — until it’s scheduled per room — your least controlled one. Measuring it usually reshapes the whole plan.
Garages, shops and block heaters. Detached buildings, deep freezes in unheated spaces, and winter plug-in loads are prairie-specific draws that generic efficiency advice never mentions.
Long dark evenings. Lighting runs for far more hours a day here in winter, which is one of the few places where the small stuff genuinely adds up — and where switching and scenes do the work automatically.
What we won’t tell you
- We won’t quote you a savings percentage. Anyone who gives you a number before measuring your home is making it up. The monitoring phase exists precisely so that we never have to guess — and so you can hold us to what the data actually shows.
- Sometimes the answer is "don’t bother". If your home turns out to be efficient and your habits are already good, we’ll tell you, and the monitoring will have been the whole job. That is a fine outcome.
- This isn’t solar. We’re the use-less layer, which is the better first step either way. If you do go solar later, having real consumption data makes that quote accurate instead of aspirational.
- If your bill shock is one appliance, you may need an electrician or an appliance replacement, not an automation company. The data will show that, and we’ll say so.

How much will I actually save?
The honest answer is that we don’t know until we measure, and neither does anyone else who hasn’t seen your panel. That’s the entire reason monitoring comes first. The wins we most often find are hot-water scheduling, heating setbacks and one surprise appliance — but whether those apply to you is a question the data answers, not a brochure.
Is this solar?
No. We’re the layer that reduces what you use, which is generally the better first step regardless of whether solar ever follows. It also has a useful side effect: if you do get solar quotes later, real consumption data makes them accurate rather than guesswork.
Will load scheduling affect comfort?
It’s designed not to. Hot water is ready when your household actually uses it, and heat stays where people are. The shifting happens in the hours you’d never notice. If a change would be noticeable, we don’t make it automatic without telling you first.
What if I rent?
Panel-level monitoring usually isn’t an option, but plug-level monitoring and non-invasive approaches often are, and they can still find the big draw. Worth a conversation — and if the answer is that there’s little we can do without touching the panel, we’ll tell you that quickly.
Do I need a subscription to see my own energy data?
No. The monitoring runs on hardware you own and the data stays in your home. Nothing about seeing your own consumption should require a monthly fee.
What if you find nothing worth fixing?
Then we tell you so and the job ends there. We’d rather deliver that answer than invent a project — and you’ll still have permanent visibility of your own consumption, which is worth having on its own.
