What is home energy management?
Home energy management means measuring what your house uses, live and per circuit, then controlling the big loads so they run when they’re needed and not otherwise. The bill tells you that you spent money, thirty days late; monitoring tells you where, as it happens.
In almost every home the story is a handful of large loads — heating, hot water, an EV, a garage heater, one old freezer — not the phone charger you were told to unplug. You find them by measuring.

Which loads are worth controlling?
The data decides, but these are the usual suspects in a Saskatchewan house. Large, predictable loads are worth automating; small ones rarely are.

Six months of real heating demand means how and when the house heats matters more here than almost anywhere. Our energy work and our climate work are the same conversation.
Electric-heat homes gain most
On baseboards, heating is your biggest load and, until each room has a schedule, your least controlled one. Measuring it usually reshapes the whole plan.
Garages, shops and plug-ins
Detached buildings, deep freezes in cold spaces and winter plug-in loads are prairie draws that generic efficiency advice never mentions.
What we won’t tell you
- We won’t quote you a savings percentage. Anyone who gives you a number before measuring your home is making it up. The monitoring phase exists so we never have to guess — and so you can hold us to what the data shows.
- Sometimes the answer is “don’t bother.” If your home is already efficient, we’ll tell you, and the monitoring will have been the whole job. That’s a fine outcome.
- This isn’t solar. We’re the use-less layer, which is the better first step either way. If you go solar later, real consumption data makes that quote accurate instead of aspirational.
- One bad appliance needs a different fix. If your bill shock is one old freezer, you need a replacement, not an automation company. The data will show it, and we’ll say so.

How much will I actually save?
We don’t know until we measure, and neither does anyone else who hasn’t seen your panel. That’s why monitoring comes first. The wins we most often find are hot-water scheduling, heating setbacks and one surprise appliance — but whether those apply to you is a question the data answers.
What does a home energy monitor show?
What the whole house is drawing right now, and what individual circuits — heating, water heater, EV charger, dryer — are doing, over time. In KeenAi One it sits beside the loads you can switch, so you see the cause and the control in one place.
Is this solar?
No. We’re the layer that reduces what you use, generally the better first step whether or not solar follows. If you already have panels or a battery, KeenAi One shows what they produce and store beside what you use.
Can it schedule my EV charging?
Yes, with most home chargers. Charge overnight, on a set schedule, or only when the house isn’t drawing much else. If your charger can’t be integrated, we’ll tell you at the assessment.
Can I control my electric water heater?
Yes. Heating the tank around the times the household actually uses hot water is often the first win. Switching a water heater is line-voltage work, done to code by licensed electrical partners.
Will load scheduling affect comfort?
It’s designed not to. Hot water is ready when your household uses it, and heat stays where people are. If a change would be noticeable, we don’t make it automatic without telling you first.
What about block heaters and the garage?
Detached garages, shop heaters and winter plug-in loads are prairie-specific draws. The monitoring shows what they cost; then they can run when you need them instead of all night.
Do you install the monitoring in my electrical panel?
Panel-level monitoring is installed to code by licensed electrical partners, and we set up everything after that — the app, the alerts and the automations.
What if I rent?
Panel monitoring usually isn’t an option, but plug-level monitoring often is, and it can still find the big draw. If the honest answer is that there’s little we can do without touching the panel, we’ll tell you quickly.
What if you find nothing worth fixing?
Then we tell you so and the job ends there. You still have permanent visibility of your own consumption, which is worth having on its own.
Do I need a subscription to see my own energy data?
No. The monitoring runs on hardware you own and the data stays in your home.
How much does energy monitoring cost?
It depends on your panel and how many circuits are worth watching. We give you a fixed quote at a free on-site assessment, before any work begins.
