The building runs on the network. So we start there.
Cameras, door entry, HVAC control, leak protection and building management all depend on one thing working properly first — the network underneath them. That is the part we have been doing longest, and it is why the rest of it holds up.

Most building systems fail in the same boring place
Not the cameras. Not the controllers. The cabling, the switching and the addressing underneath them.
A camera system that drops overnight, a door controller that goes offline every Monday, a BMS that cannot be reached from outside the building — in our experience these are rarely equipment faults. They are network faults wearing an equipment costume. Someone ran the cameras off the office WiFi. Someone put the door controllers on the same flat network as the guest laptops. Someone terminated the runs badly and the errors only show up under load, months later, at three in the morning.
KeenAI started in network and IT infrastructure, and we still build every commercial job from that layer up. The smart building is the visible part. This is the part underneath.
What that means in practice
- Structured cabling that is tested and labelled, not guessed at
- Building systems on their own VLANs, separated from staff and guest traffic
- Switching and PoE budgeted for what you are actually plugging in
- Remote access that does not mean opening ports to the internet
- A rack somebody can still work in three years from now
The six systems we build for buildings
Take one, or take the stack. They are designed to run on the same infrastructure either way, which is what keeps a second and third project from turning into a second and third silo.
Network, server & IT infrastructure
Structured cabling, switching, WiFi, firewalls, servers and backup. The layer everything else sits on, and where we started.
Security cameras & surveillance
Systems specified so the footage is actually usable the morning you need it — retention, lighting, coverage and lawful placement.
Access control & door entry
Fobs, cards and mobile credentials, with a record of who went where. Keys tell you nothing, and never all come back.
Smart HVAC & indoor air quality
Zone-level measurement and control, plus CO₂ and air quality monitoring. Thermostat arguments are usually a measurement problem.
Building management systems
One place to see heating, lighting, access, cameras and alarms instead of four disconnected systems and four logins.
Water leak detection & shut-off
Mesh sensors and automatic shut-off for multi-unit and commercial buildings, where water damage is never one tenant’s problem.
A whole job, not a box on a wall
The work we are proudest of tends to be the projects where one contractor handled the network, the servers, the cameras and the access control together — so there is nobody to point at when something does not talk to something else.
Our Business Network, Server & IT Infrastructure page covers one of those in detail: a full-stack build for Eye Surgeons of Regina, done as a single project rather than four subcontracts.
Who we do this for
Offices and professional practices
Clinics, dental and medical offices, law and accounting firms — where uptime, privacy and a tidy install all matter, and where somebody will ask who accessed what.
Multi-unit residential and property management
Condo boards, apartment buildings and rental portfolios. Leak protection, entry control and a way to see what is happening in a building you are not standing in.
Retail, shops and warehouses
Camera coverage that stands up to a claim, door control for staff areas, and networking that reaches the far corner of the building.
Builders and developers
Rough-in done properly at the framing stage, so the finished building does not need to be opened back up. This is much cheaper before drywall than after.
How a commercial job runs
Site assessment
We walk the building, look at what is already there, and find out what actually needs to happen. Existing equipment gets reused where it is worth reusing.
Design and written quote
You get a specification and a fixed scope in writing — what goes where, what it does, and what it does not do. No surprises priced in later.
Install and commissioning
Cabling, mounting, configuration and testing. Everything gets labelled, and we schedule around your operating hours rather than through them.
Handover and support
Documentation, credentials handed over properly, and training for whoever has to live with it. Support is part of the project, not a separate conversation afterwards.
What we will not do
- Quote a building we have not walked. Commercial buildings hide things. A number produced from a floor plan is a guess, and you will pay for the difference either way.
- Lock you to us. Systems are built on open standards and you own the hardware. Any competent contractor can service what we install.
- Promise a saving we cannot measure. If we have not metered your building, we do not know what a change will save, and we will say so.
- Put anything safety-critical under automatic AI control. Software advises. Rules and people decide.
Serving Saskatoon, Regina and across Saskatchewan
We work throughout Saskatoon, Warman, Martensville and the surrounding communities, and take commercial projects in Regina and across Saskatchewan. For multi-site work, the same platform and the same standards apply at every location, which is the point of doing it this way.
Frequently asked questions
Do we have to replace the systems we already have?
Usually not. Plenty of commercial equipment is fine and simply badly integrated or badly networked. We assess what is there first, and we will tell you when something is genuinely at end of life rather than replacing it because it is easier for us.
Can you work with our existing IT provider?
Yes, and it is common. We can handle the building systems and the physical layer while your IT provider keeps the workstations and software. What matters is that the boundary is written down so nothing falls between us.
Do the systems keep working if the internet goes down?
Yes. Door controllers, cameras, HVAC control and automation run locally in the building. What you lose is remote access and off-site alerts, and both come back on their own when the connection does.
Can we start with one system and add more later?
That is the normal way to do it, and it is why we build the network layer properly at the start. Adding cameras or access control later is straightforward when the cabling and switching were designed with room to grow.
How disruptive is the installation?
We schedule around your operating hours, including evenings and weekends where that is the sensible option. In occupied buildings we stage the work so you are not without a functioning system overnight.
Do you handle multi-site or out-of-town buildings?
Yes. Multiple sites can run on one platform with per-site access, so a manager sees only their building while head office sees all of them.
Start with a walk-through
The most useful first step is us in your building, looking at what is actually there. No obligation, and you will get a straight answer about what is worth doing and what is not.
